I am pleased to welcome Laith Marouf to Wider View. Laith is a Canadian journalist and activist who has served as national chair of the group Solidarity for Palestinian Human Rights, Executive Director of Concordia University Television in Montreal, and a senior consultant to the Community Media Advocacy Centre there. Laith Marouf currently lives in Beirut Lebanon where he is a geopolitical and media analyst. I spoke to Laith while he was in a cafe in Damascus, Syria.
We debunk some of the mainstream media lies about current events in Syria, particularly the US pullout that is getting so much negative attention. It's refreshing to hear from a native of Syria who also has studied the situation there for many years.
Margaret Kimberley is one of the founders of Black Agenda Report where she serves as Editor and Senior Columnist. Her new book, Prejudential: Black America and the Presidents will be released in February by Penguin Books.
We discuss the impeachment and its impact on our political system, the Democratic candidates, and the future of our democracy.
It isn't often that a protest, particularly one against neoliberal policies, experiences success. But the Yellow Vests have achieved limited success after nearly a year of protests. We in the West have heard little about this protest because it isn't the kind of protest our government and mainstream media likes to talk about. Ramin Mazaheri is the Paris correspondent for Press TV and has been out every weekend getting teargassed along with the demonstrators.
Ramin tells us about the demonstrations and the significance of the recent response by the French government. We also discuss the efforts by French President Macron to mediate between the US and Iran.
Ramin's book on China is I'll Ruin Everything You Are: Ending Western Propaganda on Red China. He writes often for the Greanville Post and Vineyard of the Saker.
My guest today a very brave young journalist from Bulgaria, Dilyana Gaytandzhieva. Dilyana has been uncovering important information about the illicit arms trade originating in Eastern Europe for some time. Among her revelations - the US taxpayer is buying weapons and delivering them to Al Qaeda and ISIS militants in Yemen and Syria!
The full reports with documentation are on Dilyana's website Arms Watch, along with other exposes and reports on the trade in arms that fuels wars worldwide.
